Winter Bean Density Trials 2014
Due to the different requirements for each of our varieties each season we carry out plant density trials. This season the trial was sown on 15th November at Soham, Cambs on a sandy clay loam.
The beans were sown into 4 rows per plot at 30cm width at 3 densities on differing distances apart in the row;
- 18cm – equivalent to aprox 16 plants/m2
- 12cm – equivalent to aprox 24 plants/m2
- 8.5cm - equivalent to aprox 36 plants/m2
Variety Density Trial 2014
The yield in the case of all varieties was higher at the highest density when compared to the other 2 density rates. This demonstrates that all varieties responded to higher populations and that varieties such as Honey responded the best. These results reflect previous years, however varieties may perform differently in individual situations. Please contact us if you require further information.
Ensure you sow at a plant density which suites your variety choice, land type and sowing time.
